Environmental Health

The Environmental Health Health Department is responsible for the provision of a range of services designed to maintain and improve the quality of the Environment and to protect public health and safety.

The principal areas of responsibility for the Enviromental Health Department includes:

  • Pollution Control-air pollution ,noise investigations, complaints, public health nuisances, dealing with planning applications
  • Health and Safety - programmed inspections of workplaces to ensure Health, safety and Welfare for employees including investigation of accidents.
  • Consumer Protection -monitoring the safety of a wide range of products/goods through planned surveys, responding to hazard warnings to ensure unsafe products are removed from sale and to investigate complaints in respect of unsafe goods
  • Food Safety-programmed assessment and inspections of food premises; assessing of foods for composition and labelling and investigation of food complaints and food poisoning.
  • Local Agenda 21-promotion of sustainable development through educational programmes aimed at schools, businesses and community groups .
