Energy Management
The Council is committed to sustainability and therefore to reduce CO2 emissions and the reduction of usage of natural resources.
A number of in-house energy management measures have been installed, among these are drylining/insulating of external walls of Council offices, installation of light sensors, TRVs fitted to radiators and zoning of heating systems in Council offices.
Among the measures introduced for the maintenance depot are new switching systems, external light fittings, etc. A building energy management system has been installed in Dungannon Leisure Centre and is one of the most energy efficient leisure centres in Northern Ireland.
Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
A CHP (Combined Heat and Power) plant was installed in the Leisure Centre in February/March 1999, which recovers the majority of heat energy usually rejected in the production of power. The resultant heat energy is suitable for space heating and hot water supply in the Leisure Centre. The plant converts about 30% of input energy to electricity and 50% to useful heat. It has an 80% efficiency in converting fuel to useful power, with considerably lower CO2 and SO2 emissions than traditional power sources.
Green Electricity
The Council has, been committed to purchasing Green Electricity for fourteen sites within the Borough area. Green Electricity is produced from renewable sources. The Green Electricity purchased by the Council is sourced from within the Borough, namely Lendrums Wind Turbines, Fivemiletown.
